Background

The Government of Grenada hosted the CCI Summit Secretariat to support preparation for the Summit of Caribbean Political and Business Leaders held in May 2013. The Summit Secretariat, with support from The Nature Conservancy's Caribbean Program coordinated three Senior Official Meetings (SOMs) and one Ministerial Meeting leading up to the Summit. The Secretariat also facilitated the negotiation and final development of the 'Leaders Declaration'. In November 2013, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada confirmed Grenada's acceptance of the initial two year hosting of the permanent CCI Secretariat

Purpose

The CCI Secretariat supports the advancement of the CCI Strategic Plan by providing coordination, communications, and other support services to the three major CCI "constituency groups" (governments, companies, partners).

The Secretariat is currently composed of a Chair and a Coordinator

Responsibilities

Members of the Secretariat work together with the CCI Council to manage the operation of the CCI and ensure that the CCI conservation goals are implemented in each CCI country and territory. The CCI Secretariat is also responsible for conducting outreach, providing technical assistance related to marine and coastal conservation and supporting efforts to mobilize additional financial resources and monitor CCI progress.
