When did you join the CCI?

The Tiffany & Co. Foundation has supported CCI since 2012.

Why did your company/organization join the CCI?

Coral Conservation is one of three environmental programs supported by The Tiffany & Co. Foundation. Recognizing that unsustainable coral harvesting can damage critically important marine ecosystems, and that many coral species face a variety of threats, The Tiffany & Co. Foundation works to improve the health of oceans through research, preservation and management of coral reefs. The Foundation is pleased to support CCI's truly multi-stakeholder approach to preserve and protect key marine species, including coral, in one of the world's most diverse and vibrant marine ecosystems.

How is the CCI important to marine and coastal conservation in the Caribbean?

CCI is a multi-government collaboration founded in 2008 with the goal to preserve 20% of the region's coastal ecosystem—totaling 20 million acres—by 2020. With corporate and government backing at the highest levels, the initiative holds great promise for success. This high-level representation is emblematic of the public-private partnership needed to accelerate marine conservation in the Caribbean through substantiated commitments and elevate public awareness of CCI.

What are your company's main conservation priority actions under the CCI?

The Tiffany & Co. Foundation works to promote the preservation of precious corals and healthy marine ecosystems through the following strategies:

  1. Promote awareness and education of the importance of corals and marine ecosystems through outreach to targeted constituencies such as consumers, ocean enthusiasts and select marine-tourism providers.
  2. Support key research and reef management strategies to directly contribute to saving reef ecosystems.

CCI falls in line with both strategies as it represents an opportunity for continuing to build public awareness about the need for effective ocean stewardship and unites a broad coalition of key actors in managing and protecting an area which contains some of the world's richest marine biodiversity.

Why is conservation important to your company/organization? How does conservation benefit you?

The Tiffany & Co. Foundation's mission is to preserve the world's most treasured landscapes and seascapes. To this end, the Foundation seeks to support organizations like CCI which pursue a bold and ambitious agenda for significant and sustainable coral and marine conservation.
